The company was founded by Gabriele Giannattasio and later run by his children: Alessandro, Federica, and Mariella—with the support of highly specialized professionals. A family-run business specializing in the production of additives for improving road pavements competitive with the international giants of the sector, from which it drew inspiration and understood the importance of research and operational ability.
1967
La first location is located in SaronnoIts specialty: producing additives to make roads safer in the face of ever-increasing motorization, raising maintenance standards. The stages: the laboratory and the construction site.
1968
The transfer of the company from Saronno to Suisio, in the province of Bergamo, current headquarters and production site. In summary, we recall some significant stages in the development of Iterchimica by dividing fifty years of company life into certain periods characterized by inventions and technologies, with related areas of diffusion, which have made the history of the sector. At the same time, Iterchimica has always continued the production of various lines of bitumen additives. His "trademarks": excitement, inventiveness and operational strength.

60s
Technology: invention of cold bituminous conglomerate for road maintenance, adhesion activators and emulsifiers.

Years 2000/2010
Alongside research
Activities: Polago project in collaboration with the University of Milan Bicocca
Technology: creation of an "active" rubber powder for use in road paving
Years 2010/2014
The presence abroad is consolidated in Romania, Canada, Venezuela. Thanks to the collaboration with numerous universities and research institutes, advanced products are developed which make up the Iterchimica technology portfolio. Despite the crisis affecting the road construction sector, turnover grows and is consolidated at current levels.
Years 2015/2022
New corporate structure and development of a new product with graphene
During 2015, a revision of the corporate structure took place, also thanks to the entry into the capital of Eng. Gamberale, who also becomes president of the CDA. A new development process is then started with a five-year expansion plan; a new organizational model supervised by a supervisory body is adopted and a company Code of Ethics is defined.
In 2017 the patent is filed Gipave®, a supermodifier containing graphene and a hard recovered plastic (which currently does not fall within the recycling chain but is normally destined for waste-to-energy plants), the result of three years of research and collaboration with Directa Plus, the University of Milan Bicocca and Gecko. Target of the research project: the improvement of the physical-mechanical behavior and the extension of the useful life of pavements subject to high traffic such as provincial roads, motorways, airports, interports, ports, etc. In September 2018, in collaboration with the Metropolitan City of Rome and the University of Rome La Sapienza, Iterchimica experiments with the first stretch of road in the world with asphalt containing the graphene-based supermodifier which, according to the first results, increases the useful life of the flooring. The Iterchimica patent, Gipave®, was then also tested in 2019 in Milan, Bergamo, Oxfordshire (UK), at the Rome-Fiumicino intercontinental airport and at the Cagliari-Elmas continental airport.
In 2019 is deposited on Ecopave patent, process for the production of a product for bituminous conglomerates with high mechanical performance.
In the first half of 2020 Gipave® was tested on a stretch of the SP62 near Laimburg (BZ). In July 2020 Gipave® it was used to create the flooring of the new Genoa – San Giorgio Bridge, inaugurated on 3 August.
In 2021 Iterchimica files the application for the new patent Micro Gipave®, a thin multifunctional bituminous layer with high mechanical performance.
The latest product studied and formulated by researchers in the Iterchimica R&D sector is CHS anti-ageing, a new solution that slows down the aging process of bitumen caused by long exposure to atmospheric agents and temperature changes. By slowing down the oxidation processes through the use of CHS anti-aging it is possible to reduce the effects of time, extend the useful life of the asphalt and prevent the onset of deterioration typical of bituminous conglomerates such as peeling, cracking and the formation of potholes.
In July of 2022, with the aim of implementing a truly circular economy, A2A uses Gipave® for the renovation of 4000 square meters of flooring of the transit areas inside the Brescia waste-to-energy plant.
In 'October 2022, the ASTM Group, the second operator in the world of motorway networks under concession, with the aim of accelerating the process of ecological and environmental transition of its infrastructures, uses Gipave® and 70% recycled asphalt to resurface the first 2 km of the A4 Turin-Milan motorway thus making it the first motorway in Europe to use green, high-tech asphalt with graphene, recovered hard plastics and a high percentage of asphalt coming from the old pavement. The project will concern the reconstruction of the slow travel lane, i.e. the one most subjected to heavy traffic, in both directions, for a total of 250 km.
