The additives designed and produced by Iterchimica for new infrastructures allows to reduce the thickness of the layers or to increase the service life of the pavement of more than 50% (in terms of number of axes passages), or both.
The benefit of using Iterchimica’s additives compared to standard products is the possibility of customizing the mixture mix–additives tailored to project parameters, obtaining exactly the performance required by the specifications of the work, for example in terms of elastic modulus of the paving, of structural number, of number of passages of equivalents standard axes (useful life of the pavement) etc.

Furthermore, the use of Iterchimica additives during the construction phase of new infrastructures can prevent many problems of deterioration, such as rutting, cracking and others, thus postponing the need of maintenance interventions, and reducing their frequency.
The use of Iterchimica additives in the construction of new infrastructures allows therefore to realize a substantial savings both in construction phase and during the service life of the infrastructure, reducing the frequency and importance of the maintenance interventions.

Later, for each layer of the pavement, the most appropriate additives are indicated, with references to the technical pages of the single products. The use of different types of antistripping agents designed and produced by Iterchimica allows to obtain the maximum binding capacity of the bitumen towards the aggregates, preventing phenomena of ginning, and extending the useful life of the pavement.

The use of iterchimica’s rejuvenators allows the use of high percentage of RAP (up to the maximum permitted by the standards of the different countries), thereby preventing the embrittlement of the paving caused by the use of RAP, even in small percentage, without the use of rejuvenators, or the use of additives, sometimes sold as a cheap rejuvenators, which are actually flux oils that only solve the problem of workability during the coating phase, but which leave unchanged all the resistance problems that bring to a rapid deterioration of the new pavement.

The modification of the bituminous mix with polymers developed by Iterchimica is an alternative to the use of modified bitumen, and allows to achieve very high elastic modulus of the pavement, even higher than those obtainable with standard modified bitumen, with substantial savings per ton of bituminous mix produced. Moreover the modification with polymers, also allows to study the modification properly to identify the exact characteristics required by the technical specifications without wasting resources, something which instead a standard product, such as modified bitumen, does not allow to do. Recent studies carried out by third parties have shown that, with the same elastic modulus, a pavement realized with Iterchimica’s polymers supports a number of fatigue cycles even 50% higher than the same pavement made with modified bitumen.

The use of the correct emulsion to connect two subsequent layers of the bituminous mix is essential for the life of the pavement, that otherwise is subject to the sliding of one layer over the other, causing bleeding and serious deteriorations also on the surface. Overcoming the technique of hot bitumen spraying, more expensive and that does not guarantee the same efficiency, the emulsions obtained with Iterchimica’s emulsifiers and produced by Iterchimica allow to obtain the maximum performances of connection between contiguous layers.

Polymeric Compound (or PPS) are the new cutting-edge technology of Iterchimica for bituminous mixtures with additives, since they allows to modify a mixture with different active ingredients, without having to manage different lines (i.e. one for each additive) as in the past, thus solving the problems of segregation of the various additives contained in a single big bag, as it is sometimes suggested by others.

The products of Iterfibra line are compound composed by cellulose, mineral and\or synthetic micro-fibres that allow an increase of the thickness of the binder film on the aggregates, improving parameters such as cohesion, resistance to loading cycles and fatigue phenomena, complex modulus and, therefore, a greater durability of the bituminous mix, less maintenance and significant extension of the useful life.
